Renewable Energy Community
The Renewable Energy Community (REC) Pilot Project on Culatra Island aims to test the technical and economic feasibility of a REC, allowing the inclusion of innovative technologies, with results that can be reflected in legal and regulatory development proposals.
The scope of the REC Pilot Project on Culatra Island includes research and demonstration, allowing to promote innovation in the REC sector.
Using existing equipment and structures, the Culatra Island REC will support research activities that allow:
Implement new forms of consumption management, which include the integration of energy management systems, and which allow controlling the consumption of equipment by REC members, integrating demand forecast and renewable generation, considering the limitations of the existing electrical grid.
Implement a model of participatory economy, which allows the distribution of costs and benefits of renewable generation, and which supports community involvement, investment in new equipment and its operation in a temporary horizon of decades.
Implement an intelligent system for charging electric boats, capable of controlling their charging according to generation, respecting user preferences and maximizing self-consumed energy.
