Partnership
The initiative is based on a 'quadruple helix' partnership model, bringing together the Algarve Regional Authority, local authorities, the University of Algarve and several companies providing technological solutions, as well as island residents represented by the island's associations.
This allows for enormous flexibility in the competition for different programmes. The Culatra2030 team currently consists of researchers from the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) and the Instituto Superior de Engenharia (ISE) of the University of Algarve, researchers from CCMAR and the Faculty of Economics, the Make it Better (miB) team, an Association for Innovation and Social Economy, members of the four associations of the Culatra Fishing Nucleus, i.e. the Culatra Island Residents' Association, the Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes Association, the Clube União Culatrense and the recently created C-COOP, the Cooperative for the Sustainable Development of Culatra Island.
Then, on a broader scale and through the Insular Committee chaired by the CCDR Algarve, it includes all entities with jurisdiction over the territory, Algarve companies and environmental non-governmental organisations. And several partnerships with national and foreign universities through training programmes, namely undergraduate internships, which are fundamental to broadening the scope of the initiative to issues of the water cycle, waste treatment, the circular economy and sustainable tourism.
